Handbag Essentials For Every Dame

My Handbag Essentials - Miss Charlotte Cake

The contents of a woman’s handbag is often a layered and in my case, organised mess of contraptions to make everyday life easier. I thought I would share my handbag essentials which ensure I have everything I need in one place.

I often have bits of paper, receipts, pens, snack wrappers, bobby pins, clip on earrings and crumbs in the pits of my bag-cave. Working up you’ll come to the more widely used bits and pieces – a diary, lipsticks, and other easily accessible things. Then, nestled right at the top is usually my phone and keys.

I change handbags regularly to suit different outfits or specific events, and when I do I have to make sure I haul the following into my new bag every time… except for a few items like my chunky diary.

Lipstick

At least one lipstick – whichever colour I’m wearing that day so I can easily top up after a meal. One of my favourites is Besame in matte Exotic Pink.

Compact Mirror

It’s not vain… a compact mirror is a lifesaver for checking teeth, eyes, lips, or for powdering your nose. This green one (pictured above) was a gift from a dear friend.

Rain Bonnit

What’s the point of spending all that time on your beautiful hair do’ to have it ruined in the wind or rain. Here in Auckland this is an absolute essential for me, with each day often showing 4 seasons. I love this 2-pack from The Bonnit, a leopard print or a clear option!

Bobby Pins and Hair ties

Particularly bobby pins… I don’t really need to explain these.

Reading Glasses

I need these frames to read anything close-up these days otherwise hello migraines! These are my ‘Skunkboy’ tortoiseshell cat eye frames from Bonlook

Diary and at least two pens

I’m old school and like to physically write things down. I’ve used a physical diary for as long as I can remember and probably always will. I like to think I’m keeping cursive handwriting alive. Plus, buying new stationary is SO much fun!

Perfume

Carrying round a travel sized perfume is one of the easiest ways to perk myself up in the afternoon. I love the solid perfumes from Lush like ‘Sikkim Girls’ or ‘Sun’. I’m also digging the Besame ‘Decades of Fragrance’ collection.

All these things are my essentials including of course my mobile phone, and usually a chiffon scarf!
