I feel like I was searching for the perfect pair of brogues for forever. All the reproduction styles out there are either super feminine or really masculine and I wanted that fine line of in-between. I finally came across these Lindy Bop Ethel Brogues which looked perfect.
I feel like the first time I ever really felt connected to Katy Perry was when I stumbled upon her ‘Thinking of You’ music video. It’s still my favourite video of hers, and the multiple vintage style outfits she’s chosen are all so perfect. There is one scene in her video where she’s riding on the front of a bicycle with her beau. She’s wearing the cutest playsuit and a pair of brogues. I wanted to recreate that specific photo with my own look.
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect quality and fit wise, but I’m incredibly happy with the shoes. Especially after wearing them in a bit (I did the giant sock trick)!
This lace up style comes in the wine and cream colourway which I’m wearing, as well as black/white and brown/tan. I really like the different coloured panels, it was one requirement which I had to have, as well as the classic punched trims (little hole pattern around the top of the shoe). The only drawback is that I have quite wide feet, and the shoes are quite narrow. I can just fit my foot in comfortably if your hooves are quite wide – possibly avoid these.
I borrowed a friends bicycle which happened to match perfectly with my casual, looser fitting dress. I just wanted a really relaxed look for this shoot in Albert Park. Simple hair and makeup, a casual dress (which is comfy to ride a bicycle in), a giant bearded man and cute brogues matched with white socks.
