If you celebrate Valentine’s Day it’s usually by giving or receiving chocolates, flowers, romantic cards or a date-night. For some, its eating junk food and watching Netflix alone in bed. I’m not an overly affectionate person in public, holding hands and a peck on the forehead is pretty much my limits. So the idea of joining every other couple who is out and about on Valentine’s Day makes me gag a little bit. There’s just too much cupid in the air for me to handle.
Carl and I like to celebrate Valentine’s Day every day of the year *cue the cheese*, but on the 14th February we usually like to eat burgers and watch a movie. I won’t deny that the end of the night usually means lingerie, lipstick and a little canoodling behind closed doors.
This year I wanted to create little Valentine’s Day sugar cookies for my beau. The one thing I do love about Valentine’s Day, are the typical colours of pink and red being used everywhere. So with that in mind, I’ve linked below the recipes I used to create these heart-shaped lemon sugar cookies with royal icing. Not only are they delicious, but they make the perfect treat for your Valentine.
- I used this recipe for royal icing – because I desperately needed a guide
- I used this cookie recipe from Sally’s Baking Addiction because I trust that woman’s baking.
I’ve actually never made sugar cookies or royal icing before and it was a complete fluke. The only thing I would do differently next time is keep them in the oven for maybe a minute or two longer. I like my biscuits to have a good crunch!
It wouldn’t be Valentine’s Day without a little gift, so I have two set’s of lipsticks to giveaway from New Zealand based cosmetics company Mellow.
There are two matte lipstick shades which I think are perfect for Valentines day – a bright pink called ‘Candy Floss’ and a bright red called ‘Danger Zone’. I love the soft velvety finish, which isn’t drying at all (a common trait of matte lipsticks). These lipsticks are so pigmented and have a long-lasting finish. They are definitely my new favourite and I can’t wait to get more colours.
These lipsticks are:
- cruelty free
- paraben free
- smell like cake (bonus!).
To enter this competition you need to comment on the blog below with one thing that you love about yourself. This can be something physical or mental (because Valentine’s Day is all about showing a little love, not just for that someone special but also towards YOURSELF!).
(Bonus entry point if you enter my email newsletter subscription).
Competition is open to International entries, and entries will close on 14th February 5PM NZ time. Winners will be announced on my Facebook page at 7PM NZ time.
