There is nothing like a Chuan Spa day… and my goodness what a deliciously invigorating day it was. I took my best friend Lily along for her birthday present and we spent the day being massaged, scrubbed and feeling like goddesses.
I chose the Chuan Body Elements which is 1.5 hours of pure bliss. This treatment included a full body massage concentrating on areas of your choosing, followed by a relaxing facial.
Before my treatments started, I was asked to smell 5 small bottles of aromatic oils. Chuan Spa works with 5 different oil blends which represent Earth, Fire, Water, Metal and Wood. It was really interesting, because I could only smell the earth blend strongly. It stood out the most and made me feel deeply relaxed, so I chose this scent. I loved hearing about how one particular smell will stand out to you as if it’s what your body is craving at that point.
Once I had finished my treatments, my massage therapist recommended utilising the spa tri-bathing facilities to compliment my massage. She mentioned the following combination – herbal steam room, ice scrub, dry sauna, and then finish off with a rinse on the spiral snail shower with jets hitting every part of your body at once. I was definitely intrigued and couldn’t wait to give everything a try.
I placed all my things in a safety locker, grabbed myself iced water, a fresh towel, fluffy robe and slippers – then made my way towards Step 1. The herbal steam room. Once inside my body instantly melted – it was HOT and smelt extremely herby (yet relaxed me).
Once I picked my melted self up off the benches I went out to the ice scrubbing area. Now, on first glance, it’s an area with a giant bowl of freshly shaved ice. You’re supposed to grab handfuls of ice and gently rub it all over your body to cool your body temperature down after the steam room. The act of changing your core temperature so drastically is supposed to be extremely good for you. So I did it… and my goodness it was an experience.
I basically ran into the dry sauna to warm back up again. Lastly, a rinse off in the snail shower. A shower that is literally a winding, spiral shape. Jets of toasty warm water hit every part of your body (literally). I did this process about 3 times over and felt like I had been reborn again.
Lily and I were absolutely starving by then, so we ate a delicious packed lunch in our bikinis outside by the heated outdoor infinity pool and jacuzzi.
If you’re using the spa, you also get complimentary valet parking which makes your whole experience at the hotel even fancier.
I’ll definitely be back, it’s the perfect investment in yourself.
