This is an Auckland Op Shopping Guide.
I decided to put this series of recommendations together because I often get asked where my favourite places are. I wanted to create a little hub of my favourites to point others in the right direction to start.
There’s nothing like the thrill of finding unique treasures among what can sometimes seem like a junkyard. Op shopping isn’t always a walk in the park.
It can be hard work but you have to be patient and persistent with your hunting. Most of these places are locations I have stumbled across myself, and haven’t left unturned since. A few were shown to me by friends and now I wouldn’t dream of not stopping by.
While this list doesn’t cover all the op shops in Auckland, I have noted only the ones worth visiting where I have found a bunch of amazing items on repeated visits. If there are op shops not mentioned where you have found some great stuff on more than one visit, then please let me know so I can add it to the list.
Spend time searching, be prepared to not strike gold the first time, re-visit the same shops over and over and shop during the week if you get the chance – this is prime time for when tonnes of new stock gets dropped off.
Here’s my list of the very best that this city has to offer.
Central Auckland Op Shopping
North Shore Op Shopping
Point Chevalier coming soon!
This list will be updated regularly*
Remember, unless an item in an opportunity shop is heavily stained, ripped or looking pretty broken – it’s generally not okay to ask for discounts. Most of these places are charities who rely solely on volunteers and donated goods to help keep them open.
Make sure you support your local op shops when you can and give your own unwanted items.
Your ‘trash’ is most likely someone else’s treasure.
